LOOK front cover analysis

LOOK magazine Analysis.
Masthead – the font is bold and probably a simple font liketimes new roman”. However it is the colour of the font that makes it stand out as the masthead, which is a very fluorescent orange. The name LOOK has associations with appearance and beauty, which is a perfect topic for a women’s/teens magazine as women have strong connections with fashion and are often described as being obsessed with their appearance or ”looks”.
The three main colours used in this magazine cove4r are fluorescent orange, yellow and white. These are all very bright and eye catching colours, which will encourage a reader to buy the magazine.
The unique point of sale for this magazine is the caption “X Factor Louis tells all” which is also the strap line at the top of the page, where the eye is naturally drawn to, and there is also a strap line underneath the masthead saying “Britain’s best selling fashion weekly” (Puff) this encourages the reader to buy the magazine and also supports the magazine as a whole.
The secondary lead on the magazine cover is “new sex scandal - ANGE ‘why I’m ok with Brad cheating!’” the informal language used in this creates a personal relationship between the audience and the celebrity and therefore makes the reader want to read more. The title of the article is also referring to the primary image of the magazine.
The primary image is a close-up of Angelina Jolie who appears to be at some sort of red carpet event, as she is wearing a dress worthy of a film premier and has been heavily made up. She has also got a direct mode of address, the reader, which involves the audience and makes the magazine more appealing and therefore more marketable.
The secondary images on the front cover are all close ups of the clothing or celebrities, this makes them the focal point of the attention and also all the text/titles can be surrounding the image to give it meaning and context. There is also a wide shot of Eva Mendes which showcases her outfit and the clothes individually as well as separates.
